About Singapore Mahjong Club

A little closer to the Singapore mahjong table.

Singapore Mahjong Club began with a simple wish: to bring more of the richness, warmth and character of a real Mahjong game into the way we play online.

The feeling that stays with us

There is a particular feeling to sitting down for Mahjong with friends. The tiles are shuffled, the walls are built, and the conversation carries on around the table. Someone is still telling a story when the first tile is drawn. A familiar voice calls out a claim. An unexpected winning hand brings laughter, disbelief and a cheerful retelling of how close everyone else had been.

The scores give each hand its weight within the game, but the afternoon or evening becomes memorable through all those small moments together. There is the pleasure of a well-judged discard, the suspense of waiting for one last tile, and the friend who somehow always has a good explanation for an ambitious decision. By the time the tiles are put away, everyone has something to talk about.

That is the feeling I want this app to carry: the sense of sharing a table, paying attention to one another, and enjoying a game whose appeal lasts well beyond a single win.

A game with room for depth

Mahjong rewards curiosity. A hand that looks straightforward can open into several possibilities. A promising plan may need to change after one discard. Sometimes patience matters most; sometimes the interesting decision is knowing when to let an idea go. Even after many games, there is still something to notice, reconsider or learn.

Singapore Mahjong has a character of its own. Its flowers and animals, familiar calls, scoring traditions and shifts of fortune all contribute to the experience. The enjoyment comes from how those details work together, and from the people making decisions across the table. Giving those details room to matter is part of respecting the game.

Existing apps have made Mahjong easier to access, but I have often felt that the full richness of the game, and the warmth of playing it with friends, do not quite come through on a screen. I wanted to explore how an app could bring more of that experience to life: a table that feels familiar, decisions worth thinking about, and space for the social side of play.

Keeping a place for one another

Finding time for four people to meet is not always easy. Work runs late, friends move away, and a game that everyone means to arrange can keep slipping into next month. An online table can make those connections a little easier to maintain. A shared game gives people something to do together while they catch up, wherever life has taken them.

An app cannot reproduce every part of an evening around a real table. The weight of the tiles, the snacks within reach and the easy conversation in the room belong to that experience. My hope is to bring enough of its rhythm and personality into this app that playing here feels like a welcome way to spend time together, and perhaps a reason to arrange the next game in person.

That welcome should extend to people who are still learning. Everyone has to play their first hand, ask what a call means, or work out why a particular choice mattered. Practice and coaching are part of that aim: giving players room to build confidence and discover the satisfaction of understanding a little more each time they sit down.

Why there are paid memberships

Singapore Mahjong Club is a personal project built out of affection for the game and a wish to share it. The paid tiers are not intended to generate a profit. Their purpose is to help cover hosting, server capacity, maintenance and the other costs of keeping the app available and running reliably.

Even a small online clubhouse has bills to pay. Each table needs somewhere to run, saved games need somewhere to live, and the app needs ongoing care as it improves. Optional memberships are a practical way to help meet those costs while offering more play and additional features to people who would like them. You can see what each tier includes on the membership page.

The ambition is modest: to keep a thoughtful Mahjong app available, to improve it over time, and to make it a place people enjoy returning to. Whether you use the free tier or choose a paid membership, I hope you feel equally welcome at the table.

A table we can make better

This app is a work in progress, and the people who play it can help shape what it becomes. A confusing instruction, a detail that feels unfamiliar, or a small suggestion about the flow of a game can all be useful. So can hearing about the things that make a session enjoyable. The aim is to keep listening and bring the experience closer to the game we know and love.

Thank you for spending some of your time here. If Singapore Mahjong Club helps old friends find a regular game, gives a new player the confidence to join in, or makes an ordinary evening a little more companionable, it will be doing what I hoped it would.

Pull up a chair. There is always another hand to look forward to.

Take your seat

Practise solo without an account for as long as you like. Solo tables stay in this browser; they do not sync between devices. Sign in with Apple or Google for career visits and online play. Start a private table and share its invite code with friends, browse the public tables, or practise with computer players. Use the same sign-in option on each device to return to your account. The table works on phones, tablets and computers; you can also add it to your home screen. Online play needs an internet connection. New to the scoring? The Singapore mahjong scoring guide explains every tai pattern and point value the club uses.

Table balances are points for scorekeeping, not money. Nothing can be bought with points, and scores cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for money. Membership payments are separate from game scores.
